St. Louis celebrate its 250 anniversary and that is quite old for an American city. St. Louis is just built at the Mississippi river. That river also represents the state boarder for Missouri and Illinois. So that’s the reason why St. Louis also is called Twin City. The downtown of St. Louis is tended but nevertheless a lot of the big buildings are empty. On the west part of St. Louis (Mississippi side) there are lot of things to do. In “Soulard”s quarter we find a lot of clubs and pubs where nearly all night live music will be played. The “Gateway Arch” the gate to the west which was built on 1965 it has a highness of 630 feet (192 meters) and it may be ascended by tram. The Forest Park which is bigger than the Central Park in New York and which comprehends the zoo and a lot of Museums and this can be visit all for free. Also the Union Station is worth to be seen. That station was built at 1895 and there could be handled over 300 trains and over 100 000 passengers per day on this time. It was the world biggest Station ad its time.
The east part of St. Louis (Illinois) became decomposed and at some parts are such dangerous that tourists are suggested not to go there. Astonishing at this point is that the east part of St. Louis (Illinois) was higher sophisticated then the west 50 years ago.
We relishing the evenings at the Jazz and Blues clubs like “Beale on Broadway” and “BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups” (Owner and sometimes personally here: BB King) or at the “Oyster bar“, which all have top class live music for little money. Live music starts at 22.30 h and they play till 03.00 h.
